Philip McKay - Member
Mr. McKay
has been an intellectual property attorney since 1993 .
Prior to joining Gunnison, McKay and Hodgson, Mr. McKay worked as a
Patent Attorney in a large Silicon Valley law firm and as Senior Patent Counsel
for a Fortune 200 Corporation.
As
a Patent Attorney in a large Silicon Valley Law Firm, Mr. McKay prepared and
prosecuted domestic and foreign patent applications, assisted in complex patent
litigation, and prepared non-infringement and validity opinions.
As
Senior Patent Counsel for Sun Microsystems Inc., Mr. McKay helped establish the
patent policies and procedures used by Sun.
In addition, Mr. McKay has extensive experience with starting corporate
patent programs and at motivating both inventors and managers to take part in
the patent process. Mr. McKay is
also experienced in technology licensing to and from companies ranging from
small start-ups to the some of the largest corporations in the world.
Mr. McKay's specialty areas include:
microprocessor architecture and design; general and low power circuitry;
systems design; LASER and optical devices; semiconductor processing; IC
packaging; peripheral devices and drivers; refrigeration technology; and
mechanical and medical devices.

Mr.
McKay received his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center
where he was Editor and Senior Editor of the USC Tax and
Interdisciplinary Law Journal and Winner of the 1992 Southern California
Intellectual Property Law Award.
Mr. McKay received a B.S. in physics from the University of California,
Los Angeles in 1990, cum laude.
Prior
to becoming an attorney, Mr. McKay served six years in the United States
Navy as an Electronic Warfare Specialist.
Mr.
McKay is admitted to the bar in California and is licensed to practice before
the Northern District of California and the Court of Appeals for the Ninth
Circuit. He is also registered to
practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
